I believe that a home should be a happy and vibrant place. My philosophy is that life is one big "mix and match", be it another of our products or an old favourite. Our designs are all inspired by my animals, past and present, my love of flowers and the great outdoors. Our colour-ways range from country classics like slate and taupe to vibrant tangerine, lime and jade.
The brand has become a homeware journal favourite and has achieved a reputation for high quality, unique design and great value for money as voted by online customers through Feefo. I am delighted this year to have expanded our "lovingly made in the UK" range where we work with local craftsmen and women to bring the highest quality of product and workmanship.
The Shed inc. was founded in 2012 - it may have taken 18 years of friendship, three children between us (Emily, Molly and Florence) and some life changing personal challenges along the way, to focus and drive this new venture, but in 2012 I commissioned my best friend Susan Schippel to create some designs reflecting my love of flowers, colour and our beloved dogs, as well as sneaking in some British patriotism with London 2012 Olympic games and the Queens Jubilee year.
I have two daughters, and in 2008 had to abruptly and unexpectedly give up executive life to care for Florence who has complex medical needs. I have always believed that we have to grab every opportunity in life, and it's all a question of vision and determination through bad times, as the good times look after themselves!
It was when Susan was being treated for breast cancer and I was thinking how on earth I could ever work around Florence's long term needs, that the idea of creating The Shed inc. and creating a new homeware label came to mind. Susan has many years of experience in the textile industry providing the home furnishing market worldwide with original innovative designs for the past 25 years.
This was the perfect opportunity for me to utilize Susan’s creative skills and combine it with my business acumen. A contemporary collection aimed to be simple, bright, and easily placed began to evolve. It was to be a "mix and match" range to sit alongside other favourite labels or on its own. This collaboration of skills and friendship came at a time when we were relying on each other’s support. Sadly in 2016 Susan lost her battle with breast cancer but her spirit will live on in our designs and her passing has inspired me to ensure the legacy lives on. In 2017 we launched a "lovingly made in the UK" collection utilising British manufacturing in some of our textile and china products. We also continue to develop our long-standing relationship in India giving our customers greater choice as price is always a sensitive issue, however we are passionate about supporting UK production and so the blend works for us. We have new talented designers working for us capturing my concepts and vision, ensuring that we are pushing new boundaries with fresh colours and designs.
We welcome feedback and would love you to share your "mix and match" photos with us on social media - it's great to see what colourful homes you have created with our products!
